Linux Game Jam - 2023

As long as I could remember, I always wanted to use Linux. Even before I knew what it was I knew I wanted to explore it. To me, Linux has always been about the vast field of software thrown about. When I first saw it, it was different. It wasn't Windows.

I said these words 6 years ago. These words caught the eye of an experienced Linux game developer and the rest is history. In this journey, I never really explained where the love of Linux came from. While not his intention, Clifford Stoll's book The Cuckoo's Egg did a lot to foster Unix, Linux, and BSD usage. It heavily inspired me on my journey as well, during my research I found other people thanking Stoll for exposing them to Unix.

So, I made a Linux Game Jam entry this year dedicated to recreating the first steps within his book.  It's rudimentary but recreates inodes and starts to imitate a small section of the old 1986 arpanet.  Usernames, hostnames, and IP addresses have been pulled from various sources.

To honor those who have worked at Berkeley, on BSD working hard to create a robust and interesting operating system. The code for this project is released, not tied to any git repo (free) under the BSD Zero-Clause License. Although, I highly encourage and recommend credit people where credit is due. You'll find the credits command built into the game which mentions not only who built the game but where the information came from and what tech was used.
